CNED 6897 - Internship in School Counseling I 3 s.h.


Supervised experience in an applied professional setting under the supervision of a faculty member and a qualified site supervisor. The course emphasizes the development of skills and competencies expected of school counselors. The intern is expected to become involved in all aspects of the site’s functions. Students also attend a small group seminar that focuses on effective school counselor interventions, relevant readings, and professional development. Students must enroll for three (3) credit hours each in two consecutive semesters of field placement, for a total of (6) credit hours. A 600 clock hours internship has to be in approved settings. One semester (a minimum of 300 clock hours) of the internship must be in the elementary and middle school grades and the consecutive second semester (a minimum of 300 clock hours) of the internship must be in the secondary grades or vice versa. A-E Only. Offered annually.
Prerequisite(s): SCNS or SCHC Degree student status, CNED 5100  (with a minimum grade of “B”), CNED 5110 CNED 5220 CNED 5105 CNED 5115  (with a minimum grade of “B”), CNED 5230  (with a minimum grade of “B”), and CNED 5235  (with a minimum grade of “B”), and successfully passed Comprehensive Exam. Students who are on Academic Probation will not be permitted to take the Internship.
