EDUC 636A - Literacy Coaching for Teaching Writing 1 s.h.


Emphasis will be on acquiring practical skills from a literacy professional currently teaching in the K-12 public school system to support candidates’ responsive instruction during taking the first literacy clinic and prepare for a literacy specialist’s position. Candidates will come to understand how to use literacy specialists’ assessment tools, such as children’s writing sample analyses and spelling inventories, and will practice conducting them for a range of children’s literacy strengths and needs. Candidates will also learn to use these assessments for the purpose of forming instructional goals to target areas of children’s writing. Candidates will also coach each other for the purpose of accurate assessment of writing development, forming goals, and envisioning and enacting instruction. Submission of two tutoring videos from EDUC 636  with reflection will occur.  Offered Fall only.
