EDUC 638 - Literacy Coaching for Teaching Reading and Word Study 1 s.h.


Emphasis will be on acquiring practical skills from a literacy professional currently teaching in the K-12 public school system to prepare candidates for the first literacy clinic. Candidates will come to understand how to use literacy specialists’ core assessment tools, such as running records and word knowledge inventories, and wil practice administering them for a range of children’s literacy strengths and needs. Candidates will also coach each other for the purpose of accurate assessment of reading development, forming individualized goals, and envisioning and enacting instruction. Field component required.  This course is required to be taken right before the first clinic course EDUC 636 . Offered fall, spring, and/or summer.
Prerequisite(s): Graduate student status.
