ANTH 3630 - Neanderthals and Early Modern Humans 3 s.h.

This is a course that examines the role of Neanderthals in human evolution. We will explore research questions such as: Are Neanderthals our direct human ancestors? Did Neanderthals mate with modern humans? What kind of lives did Neanderthals live? We will also examine how the evolution of early modern humans impacted Neanderthals. Finally, we will look at the effects of technology, the environment and culture on Neanderthal adaptations, evolution and survival; and how all of it reflects on the modern world. A-E Only. Offered annually.
