HISA 3706 - Black Power to Black Lives Matter 3 s.h. This course examines the history of African Americans’ pursuit to justice, equality, and liberation in the post-civil rights United States to the 21st century. The class examines topics such as the Black Power Movement, Black Arts Movement, Urbanization, Mass Incarceration, AIDS Epidemic, Hip-Hop Generation, Barack Obama, and Black Lives Matter and how previously less recognized groups within the African American community such as women, LGBT, and lower-income endured and challenged politics in a “colorblind” U.S. society. A-E Only. Offered annually. LA DESJ Prerequisite(s): SoS or 3 s.h. lower division HIST course.
