SPMT 1250 - Influence and Impact of Sports 3 s.h. This course examines a history of sports, athletes, and sporting events within and beyond the United States to address how sports reflect broader societal inequities associated with class, sex, race, sexual orientation and gender identity, ability and nativity. The course serves as a foundation for upper-division courses such as Women in Sports and Sport and American Society. Through an examination of history, students will address misconceptions and representations that contemporary society may have of certain sports that will provide a working knowledge for future sport business professionals to make effective decisions.
