HDFS 3560 - Challenging Behavior in Young Children 3 s.h. This course focuses on the range of behavior seen in young children (to grade 3) as a function of the child’s overall development. Particular emphasis is placed on how caregiving adults respond to and manage young children’s behavior patterns to foster overall pro-social learning and development. Theories of development are studied, as well as widely held expectations and milestones of development in the Social, Emotional, Cognitive, and Physical domains. A life span perspective is included with an overview of the diversity in familial and cultural attitudes, beliefs and practices with regard to behavior in the young child. A-E Only. Offered annually. LA Prerequisite(s): HDFS 1100 .
