BIOL 1008 - Medical and Scientific Terminology 3 s.h.


This course will teach critical terminology and techniques for deciphering field-specific terminology. The focus of this course is on medical and scientific terminology including the Greek and Latin roots of scientific terminology as well as human anatomy, physiology and the basic body systems, with added emphasis placed on those terms pertaining to diagnosis, clinical procedures, and pathophysiology. Pertinent acronyms and abbreviations will also be included. Students will be able to use a medical dictionary and other health care references and develop an understanding of the medical terminology used in peer-reviewed scientific articles, reports, medical journals, and reference books. Students will also learn to use this vocabulary to communicate effectively with all healthcare and legal professionals utilizing this vocabulary in oral and written environments. A-E Only. Offered Fall semester.
