ANTH 4110 - Ethnohistory 3 s.h. Introduces students to the use of historical data in reconstructing the cultural past of a society. Ethnohistory addresses the spaces between studies of prehistoric societies based on archeology and studies of current societies based on ethnography. It is especially useful for studies of social and cultural change and ethnogenesis. The focus of the course is the use of primary documents (i.e. civil and religious records, censuses, images, texts, oral histories, etc.) to reconstruct and interpret social relations of the past, including kinship, social networks, social status and mobility, ethnic identity, and gender roles. A-E Only. Offered irregularly. LA Prerequisite(s): SoS; ANTH 1000 or ANTH 1300 or ANTH 1600 .
