ALS 223 - Graffiti & Street Art in the Francophone World 3 s.h. This course examines graffiti and street art from around the world, with a special focus on works produced in the French-speaking world (Africa, the Caribbean, North America, and Europe). We will consider graffiti and street art from a variety of perspectives: marginalized cultures, youth culture, punk, hip-hop, the intersections between local and international communities, as criminal activity, political protest, and as art. Students will do original research with online and/or in-situ graffiti. Taught in English. A-E Only. Offered irregularly. LA Cross-listed with FREN 223 .
