EHIS 211 - Kings and Philosophers: Europe 1648-1789 3 s.h. This course looks at Europe during the age of Absolute monarchy and the Enlightenment, with a special focus on eighteenth- century politics, government, culture and society against the backdrop of overseas expansion and globalization. The course will also focus on the radical Enlightenment, the development of a “public sphere” and the roles of reading, gossip, and caricature in shaping pre-revolutionary politics and society. Pass/Fail Option. Offered Fall only. LA Prerequisite(s): SoS or 3 s.h. 100-level HIST course.
