EDUC 305 - Early Childhood Education Curriculum and Assessment 3 s.h. Teacher candidates will learn theoretical and practical aspects of early childhood education, focusing on different learning theories and the needs of children in preschool through kindergarten classrooms. The roles and challenges of an early childhood educator and current evidence-based practices of early childhood education programs will be studied. Candidates will use knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices aligned with the New York State Common Core Standards, the US Department of Education, and the New York State Education Department to develop supportive, inclusive learning experiences, with attention to diversity, within a meaningful and challenging curriculum. Observation, documentation, lesson planning, implementation, and assessment are part of a shared field work component in preschool and kindergarten settings. Offered Fall and Spring.
