Note:

This minor is crafted to attend to the needs of teaching in a middle school environment (grades 5 through 9). Undergraduate students who have completed this minor and who have also earned 30 semester hours in the middle school subject to be taught (biology, chemistry, earth science, English, mathematics, physics, or social studies), may apply to NYSED for a certificate extension after earning an initial teaching certificate. If NYSED awards the extension, a childhood education (grades 1-6) teaching certificate will be extended to grades 7-9 and an adolescence education teaching certificate (grades 7-12) will be extended to grades 5-6.  A passing score on the appropriate subject-area Content Specialty Test (CST) will be required in order to be certified to teach a middle school subject.
