EDUC 4040 - Elementary Math Methods 3 s.h. This course applies the best practices of student-centered mathematics as found in the National Council of the Teachers of Mathematics and the New York State Standards. Topics include numeration and number sense, building fact fluency, and strategies for computation and fluency in whole number computation, fractions, and decimals. The class format consists of small group lessons, hands-on activities, and reflective writing. Course requirements include a field component, the creation of lesson plans, practice with manipulatives, and strategy presentations. A-E Only. Offered Fall and Spring. Prerequisite(s): MATH 1080 and MATH 1081 , SrS, successful completion of application to candidacy. Corequisite(s): EDUC 4020 , EDUC 4022 , EDUC 4036 and EDUC 4060 .
