EDUC 4036 - Literacy Methods II 3 s.h. This course formulates a theoretical basis for practical applications of literacy in the classroom to achieve the New York State Next Generation English Language Arts Learning Standards. The teacher’s role in developing literacy is examined, with an emphasis on a critical exploration of literature, technology, and other resources. Emphasis on instructional planning, classroom organization, assessment, and meeting the literacy needs of diverse learners through observation and application. Content area literacies and their professional development are explored. Course activities are informed by the materials from the US Department of Education, the New York State Education Department, and the Science of Reading (SoR). A field component is included. A-E Only. Offered Fall and Spring. Prerequisite(s): EDUC 3035 , SrS, successful completion of application to candidacy.
