BIOL 4800 - Bioinformatics 4 s.h.


This course will cover the most essential computing skills for modern biologists. Students will start off honing basic bioinformatic skills utilizing graphical user interface programs, and then will transition into command-line computing and gain an introduction to programming languages such as R, Python, and bash. Students will also gain experience utilizing a high-performance computer cluster to process large datasets. Emphasis will be on processing biological data via hands-on computer work, problem solving, data handling, and constructing reusable bioinformatic workflows. This course is designed for any student interested in working with large datasets. A-E only. Offered every other spring semester.
