HIST 3701 - The Church in Black America 3 s.h.


This course explores the history, politics, and culture of the Black Church in the United States from its African origins, its transformation during and after slavery, and position of the Church in contemporary African American life. The course examines the role of the church as a pillar for racial and gender equality as well as an examination of the critique of the church as a capitalist venture.  A-E only. Offered every two years.
