BIOL 2310 - Introduction to Synthetic Biology 3 s.h.


This interdisciplinary course introduces students to the fundamental principles of synthetic biology. Basic concepts of biological design, chemical, biological, bioinformatics, and modeling techniques used to create and validate biological machines will be covered. Students will learn about the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) program and current research in the field, which seeks to address real-world problems in a way that combines synthetic biology with societal, ethical, and economic interests. Includes a 2-hour laboratory. A-E only. Offered every Spring.
