MUSE 5525 - Collections, Acquisitions, Care and Management of Natural History and Science Collections 1 s.h. or 3 s.h.


This course will cover the essential responsibilities of museum professionals for their museum’s collections. Topics include collections planning, systematic and living collections as well as creating meaningful and new collections. Students will gain knowledge of ethical and legal issues involved in these activities and practical experience in cataloging, caring for, storing and housing objects for a variety of museum purposes including research, exhibition, and programming. Special attention will be given to an understanding of the collection, care and management of wet specimens, natural history, plant, herbaria and human remains in collections. A-E Only. Offered annually.
Prerequisite(s): Permission of the instructor and the director is required for students not enrolled in CGP.
