WGS 4060 - Sex, Gender, Violence 3 s.h.

This course explores the linkages between sex, gender, and violence broadly. It interrogates the question: why do some issues of gendered violence capture sustained global attention while others fail to do so. Central foci of the course include colonialism & gender; war & terrorism; economic inequality & conflict; militarized masculinity & femininity; homonormativity; femicide; women as perpetrators of violence; and the gendered nature of sexual violence. Through course readings from social sciences and humanities, including academic books and articles, newspaper and news magazine articles, and films, students will critically reflect on the depth and complexity of the relationship between sex, gender, and violence in global politics. A-E Only. Offered every two years.
