HMUS 522 - Culture and Collections 3 s.h.


This hands-on course familiarizes students with object analysis, focusing on the material culture of the United States understood within a global context. It introduces material culture as evidence in understanding topics such as foreign policy, colonialism, labor, race, cultural difference, wealth, aesthetics, and technology. Assignments encourage students to learn skills necessary for object-driven research using both material culture and documentary sources. Off-site trips may be required. A-E Only. Offered as Fall elective.
Prerequisite(s): Permission of the instructor and the director is required for students not enrolled in CGP.
