ARTS 242 - Figure Drawing I 3 s.h. This course provides the student with a structured approach to mastering the fundamentals of drawing the human figure from life. Utilizing short and long poses and a variety of black and white media, an emphasis is placed on understanding elements of design, gesture and contour, proportion, blocking-in and rendering form, and the practical application of anatomy and perspective through direct and sustained observation. Attention will be drawn to the expressive potential of the figure and its central role in historical and contemporary artistic traditions. Pass/Fail Option. Offered Fall and Spring. Prerequisite(s): ARTS 141 .
