Admission Requirements

  1. Submit a completed application and the non-refundable fee.
  2. Submit a copy of New York State initial teaching certification in a functionally relevant area.*
  3. Submit an official transcript of an earned Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college.
  4. Have achieved an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 overall and 3.0 in the major field during the last two years of undergraduate work.
  5. Submit evidence of passing scores on all NYS certification examinations.
  6. Have earned at least 3 credits of developmental psychology, child or adolescent development.
  7. Have earned at least 6 credits in reading or the teaching of reading.
  8. Submit an essay outlining your specific academic areas of interest and your career goals. What do you anticipate doing in the next ten-year period?
  9. Submit GRE scores. The department will also accept the following exams in lieu of GRE: edTPA, GMAT, Miller’s Analogies, or Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators.

Admission materials are accepted for the summer semester only. 

*Teaching certificates from other states are considered.

Dignity for All Students

The Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) requires that public school employees complete 6 hours of training/coursework that addresses harassment, bullying, and discrimination prevention and intervention. Students who have not yet completed this requirement during their undergraduate programs, are responsible for seeing that this requirement is met prior to graduating from their program.
