WLIT 235 - Comedy and Satire in Greece and Rome  3 s.h.


This course offers a survey of comedy and satire in Greek and Roman literature. Students will read comedies by Aristophanes, Menander, Plautus, and Terence, satires by Horace, Juvenal, and Seneca, and the comic novels of Petronius and Apuleius. Some topics we shall consider are genre, historical and literary influence, and critical and theoretical perspectives. Offered every 2-3 years.
