The study of Modern Japanese history since 1500 through politics, economics, diplomacy, and culture. Includes Japan’s unification under the Tokugawa, traumatic opening to the West, overthrow of feudalism, rapid modernization, imperialism, defeat, occupation, and economic rebirth.
