LITR 286 - Gender and Geography: Women’s Environmental Writing  3 s.h.

This course uses gender as a central lens through which to examine human relationships with the natural world. Through essays, nonfiction, memoir, novels, and films, we will trace the complicated relationship between the status of nature and the status of women. Critical work by Indigenous and non-Indigenous intellectuals and activists who write at the intersections of science and literature will complement the course’s focus on how contemporary women connect their writing of place with special attention to toxicity and health; sustainability and the global climate crisis; women’s equality; indigenous activism; environmental racism. Offered every 2-3 years.
