SMUS 600 - Science Learning 3 s.h.

Science Museums and Science Centers are a valuable educational resource, both for school teachers and for informal life-long learning of audiences of all ages and levels. It is therefore essential to understand general overarching principles of science education and their application to this type of setting. This course will explore current approaches to science education, focusing on those aspects relevant to science museum practice, such as the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), inquiry-based learning, informal science education (ISE) and Science Capital, giving students the opportunity to apply these ideas to the design of a museum education program. Offered every spring semester.
Prerequisite(s): Permission of the instructor and the director is required for students not enrolled in CGP.
