HMUS 639 - Digital Technology in Museums 3 s.h.

Digital Technology in Museums covers the most current digital technologies for use in the museum field, as well as a look forward to new technologies being developed for education and outreach, visitor experience and other aspects of the museum profession. Beyond specific applications and devices, we will discuss theoretical and practical principles guiding the successful and meaningful use and implementation of technology in museums. This course is very hands-on and includes several small projects throughout the course, trialing and testing the limits of various technologies. Students will complete a final project in the form of an education/informational podcast, YouTube video, Virtual Fieldwork, iPad/Phone/Android application, virtual reality program, or other approved digital technology project. Offered every fall semester.
Prerequisite(s): Permission of the instructor and the director is required for students not enrolled in CGP.
